Arriving in Dothan via Dothan Regional Airport sets you up perfectly, with the Wiregrass region, the Florida line, and the Gulf beaches a short drive away. Dothan is the Peanut Capital of the World, the hub of a farming region where roughly half of the peanuts grown in the United States come from within a hundred miles. It is a friendly, mid-sized Southern city with a lively downtown mural district and plenty of good eating. Standout things to do around Dothan: - Hunt for the decorated fiberglass peanut statues scattered around town - Walk the Wiregrass murals that cover downtown walls with local history - Visit Landmark Park, a living history farm with a planetarium and boardwalk trails - Catch the National Peanut Festival in November, with a fair, parade, and recipe contest - Browse the Wiregrass Museum of Art in a converted power plant - Explore the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens - Tour the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Novosel near Ozark - Try a boiled peanut from a roadside stand, the local snack of choice Dothan sits in the corner where Alabama, Georgia, and Florida meet, so day trips go in all directions. Enterprise and its famous Boll Weevil Monument are a half hour west, Florida Caverns State Park near Marianna is about 45 minutes south, and Eufaula's antebellum homes and bass-fishing lake are an hour north. Panama City Beach and the Gulf are about an hour and 45 minutes away, and Tallahassee is roughly the same. Peanut brittle, pecan pie, and fried catfish show up on every menu, and the Dothan hospitality comes free.
